WALKIES 24-27 APRIL 2020

Seatoller, Lake District

COVID-19 Coronavirus Lockdown

So, for the first time since March 2001 (Lakes trip cancelled due to foot-and-mouth), we were prevented from meeting up.

Instead, we did what so many others have been doing during the lockdown - met virtually.

A few reminders of our weekend vPub evening

THE USUAL SUSPECTS...

- Charlie "Headset" Grant
- Pete "No alcohol" Smith
- Simon "Garden boy" Piercy
- Tim "Babe in arms" Spate
- Dave "Happy Bithday, Mum" Noble

... and those that didn't quite make it down the vPub ...

- Barrie "Couldn't get Zoom working" Astbury
- Steve "No internet" Barker

Friday

Charlie, Simon, Pete, Dave & Tim met in a Zoom-hosted virtual pub.

We all had a beer in hand (well, except for wimpy Pete, who was "recovering from illness").

We took a moment (at least a couple of seconds) to remember absent friends

- including Stevie B, who had previously sent an amusing email about what he was planning on doing in place of actually going to The Lakes ...

Simon opened the vPub and was soon joined by Tim and Charlie ... and Dave - twice - sort of, almost.

Tim had prepared a very apt background - inside The Riverside Bar in the Scafell Hotel, Rosthwaite.

Eventually, Pete found his way in and Dave resolved his technical issues.

During our session, we were visited by Sam and baby Ben (seen here), Julia & Anna and also Tricia.

Charlie had found some appropriate beer for the session.

The Usual Suspects

At one point Dave's Mum called to thank him for the birthday flowers (so we muted his mic so as to give him privacy).

Pete then disappeared - some excuse about a software update that couldn't wait any longer. We messaged him to tell him to join in on his iPhone - and to demonstrate how easy it is, Charlie joined in on his iPhone.

We had a good catch-up, each regaling what we had been up to during lockdown.

We all expressed our hope to meet-up for real in November (if not before) - and then we left the vPub (we were the last ones to leave!).
